The coordinator of Shilin, Bao Jihong, became a UNESCO Global Geopark Evaluator in 2019 and was invited to attend the 3rd UNESCO Global Geopark Evaluators Seminar, in parallel with the the 6th Symposium of Asian Pacific Geoparks Networks, held in Rinjiani-Lombock UNESCO Global Geopark, Indonesia on September 5th, 2019.
The Evaluator's Seminar is organized to improve the common understanding of the Evaluators on the UNESCO Global Geoparks Statutes and Operational Guidelines which are the basic documents of the Seminar.
The contents of the seminar are: UGGp evaluation and revalidation procedures and report, UNESCO Global Geoparks - Statutes and Operational Guidelines, UGGp evaluators field mission and conduct Guidelines, geopark evaluator's security module, evaluation and revalidation procedures, strong points and weaknesses- case studies and best practice to follow, etc.
After attending the seminar, we got more knowledge and deeper understanding on the issues most evaluators will face such as territory definition, boundary problems, deological heritage fundamental, geopark management, geopark visibility, sale of geological material, museums, visitor centers, educational activities, geotourism, visitor security issues, partnership and sustainable development communication, international cooperation and networking collaboration and roles within the evaluator team.
