Upon the invitation, a delegation of Shilin UNESCO Global Geopark in Yunnan Province of China, led by Mr. Yu Chun, vice governor of Shilin County, visited Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark in County Clare of Ireland on Oct 1st 2016.
Mr. Gerard Dollard, director of Servics, Clare County Council, and Ms. Carol Gleeson, manager of Burren and Cliffs of Moher Global Geopark warmly welcomed the delegation. Both parks had a meeting and exchanged views and experiences in geopark management, geoheritage conservation, community involvement, geoscience interpretation and popularization and so on.
Gerard Dollard said, Shilin Global Geopark and Burren and Cliffs of Moher Global Geopark are both members of GGN. As the typical limestone landscapes, they are the historic sites and natural phenomenon on the surface of the earth. Gerard Dollard added he attended the friendly-park relationship agreenment signing ceremony in May 20, 2015 in Yunnan Province, and after that he visited Shilin geopark, the unique and marvolous pillar karst impressed him very much.
Mr. Yu Chun said he really appreciated the invitation from Burren and Cliffs of Moher Global Geopark. He hopes this visit will greatly enhance exchanges and cooperation of both parks, and the bilateral exchanges will bring new vitality to the development of both parks. He invited Mr. Gerard Dollard and Ms. Carol Gleeson to visit Shilin at a proper time.
After the meeting, Shilin delegation visited Burren and Cliffs of Moher Global Geopark, its Visitor Center and the Geopark Exhibition Center. The rolling hills of limestone and the breathtaking costal cliffs leave Shilin delegation an everlasting impression.
The delegation concluded this visit on Oct 2nd. It is the first time for Shilin Global Geopark to visit Burren and Cliffs of Moher Global Geopark after the two parks established friendly-park relationship in May 20, 2016. This visit will strengthen the exchanges and cooperation between two parks, inject new momentum into development of both parks, and deepen the friendship between the Irish people and the Chinese people.
